Overview

The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture is in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS). The department has fully integrated programs in teaching, research, and extension, involving thirty-eight faculty, seventeen research associates, and seventeen administrative professionals and support staff statewide.

Organic produce for sale

Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through mid-October. Fresh-picked produce from WSU’s Organic Farm will be offered for sale at a farm stand on the Terrell Mall. Cherry tomatoes, salad greens, raspberries, strawberries, and tree fruit will be offered when ready.

Researcher receives award

Dr. Carter Clary and collaborators received a 2008 Honorable Mention Paper Award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers for their paper “Performance and economic analysis of a selective asparagus harvester.” Of approximately 370 manuscripts accepted for publication in 2007, only 10 received Honorable Mentions.

Potato researchers receive award for publication

“Temperature-induced changes in potato processing quality during storage are modulated by tuber maturity,” a paper co-authored by E.P. Driskill, Lisa Knowles, and Rick Knowles, featured in Volume 84 (2007) of the American Journal of Potato Research, was selected for the Outstanding Paper Award presented by the Potato Association of America.

New stone fruit breeder at WSU Prosser

Dr. Nnadozie Oraguzie will focus on development of new sweet cherry varieties suited for production in the Pacific NW. Learn more.
